Free, Fun, Family-friendly Concert – Virtuoso Strings: Friday 13th July, 7.00pm to 8.45pm at The Piano, 156 Armagh Street. Koha appreciated. “Guaranteed to surprise and delight all ages”. An orchestral group of 45 performers on an 8 day, 6 concert tour of the South Island. Virtuso Strings Orchestra is a volunteer organisation providing free lessons, instruments, uniforms, transport etc to students from the low-decile Eastern suburbs of Porirua, who would not usually have the chance to learn to play a string instrument. It has been running for 5 years and they average over 100 kids at weekly rehearsals (several of whom have achieved Grade 8 Trinity College exams). More info at www.virtuosostrings.org.nz

Indoor Bowls @ Bryndwr: The Village Bowling Club season is underway on Monday nights at Bryndwr. New players are most welcome and tuition can be given if you have never played before. It is a very social group and only mildly competitive. Please wear soft soled shoes (eg sneakers) and be there at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start. Contact Mitch Mitchell or Janice Cundall for any queries.
Indoor Bowls: Join us at Papanui on a Friday afternoon 1.30 to 3.00 pm, for a social game of indoor bowls. No previous experience needed. Please be there by 1.15 pm and wear flat, soft-soled shoes. Food Parcels and Hygiene Packs: Again a big thank you, to all who contribute items for Burnside Primary School. Currently the most needed items are: Canned spaghetti and baked beans, canned vegetables (corn, tomatoes) and canned fruit, pasta, rice, canned tuna fish, breakfast cereal, toilet paper, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo and dishwashing liquid.
