Soup Sundays: 12 noon on Sunday 5th and 12th August we are hosting lunch of soup and rolls, at Bryndwr.
The soup and rolls will be provided but you are welcome to bring something sweet for afters. In the winter months it’s not always a lot of fun to go home after church to eat alone so this is a chance to enjoy some time with friends over lunch. Any queries contact Anne Foote or Jane Agnew.
The Village Community Centre is part of the Warehouse Bags for Good programme again!
Please shop at the Warehouse Northlands and when you check out, pick up a token in exchange for your check out bag and place it in The Village Community Centre’s section of the community organisation’s voting kiosk near the entrance/exit of the store. Tokens are collected between August 2018 and January 2019. The money will be distributed to Kid’s Club and the Village Leisure Group.

Can you help? Ruth Agnew’s friend Helen lost her husband, unexpectedly during a recent flight home to England, where Helen and their two children were going to meet his family for the first time. Because Helen’s husband died en-route she found herself stuck in Dubai with two pre-schoolers while they waited for her husband’s body to be released. Now she is battling paperwork around proving his death to the UK government to be able to access his accounts and pension. She is running a business from home while caring for her two children. Then the family dog almost died from food poisoning from eating compost from the green bin, 2 year old Angus got a nasty chest infection, Helen is sick as well, then last week she tripped over taking the rubbish bin out and tore her calf muscle, so she can barely walk right now.
Helen and Ruth are in a women writers group, which has coordinated a meal train (taking turns making heat and eat meals for the family). Ruth has rounded up a team of volunteers to walk the dogs and made a roster. Now she is trying to find a couple of lovely people who could go to Helen’s place between 4pm and 7pm (even one hour would be enough), over the next few weeks, to help with dinner, pack the preschool lunches for the next day, wash the tea dishes, help the kids with their bedtime routine, and maybe read a story. Ruth has been going two or three evenings a week, and another friend had been driving in from Rolleston some evenings, but she’s finding it too difficult to do anymore as Helen lives in Bromley.
Ruth would be happy to facilitate an introduction. If you think you could help please contact Ruth firstname.lastname@example.org.
