School Holidays: Many of our regular activities will take a break during the school holidays. The term ends Friday 12th April, and term two begins Monday 29th April.
Electrical Test & Tag: If we want to be able to continue to collect and sell at The Market electrical goods then we are needing to “test and tag” each item to ensure that what we are selling is in safe working order. We are looking for someone who is legally registered for this task who may not mind spending an hour or two once per month before each Market Day checking the goods that have come in. Do you know anyone? Let either office know if you do.
The Creative Nest “save the dates”:
During May there are a couple of workshop opportunities which you may be interested in attending.
The first is Friday May 10th, in the evening – A writing workshop, facilitated by an author. The second is Tuesday May 14th, a mini workshop making small gift boxes.
Flybys/Pop-ins Visiting: In The Village, we have a wonderful initiative where each week those who are part of our church family who find it tricky to attend Worship or who spend a lot of time on their own, receive a quick visit with a warm smile from one of the Flybys or Pop-Ins team. There is always room for more volunteers to join these teams so that we are able to connect with the wider circle of our community more regularly. The commitment isn’t large and doesn’t need to be every week. And there is always a hot drink and great conversation with your fellow visitors afterward at a local cafe! Typically, the visits last for 20min and you might complete two in the morning before heading off to coffee. If this is something that you might be interested in please contact Tracey at the Papanui Office.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Warehouse Northlands Bags for Good and voted for the Village Community Centre. We have just received nearly $1,600 from the programme. Thanks again!
Papanui Office closed next week: Tracey is on leave until Monday 29th April. Jen is available at Bryndwr on Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th April, the normal hours.
Admin Jobs: From time to time there are some small jobs in our offices in which it would be very helpful for Tracey and Jen if there were volunteers willing and available to help out for an hour or so when needed. For example, sorting The Village News into packages ready to be delivered by the Pastoral Visitors. If you think you are able to assist from time to time please contact Tracey at the Papanui Office.
Entertainment Books: Fundraising opportunity for the Village. The 2019-2020 issue can now be ordered ($70 each) through Gordon Shields. Gordon will give $14 per book order to the Village. Email firstname.lastname@example.org
Canterbury Horticultural Society presents the 2019 Chrysanthemum Show: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 April from 10am to 4pm at The Kiosk in the Botanic Gardens. See a wonderful range of blooms, from delicate threadlike flowers, to enormous globes of featherlike petals. Meet members of the Chrysanthemum Circle who will be on hand to chat, answer queries and give advice about growing these spectacular blooms at home. www.chsgardens.co.nz
Cheese Rolls: We are taking orders for cheese rolls which will be made on Saturday 25th May, $12 dozen or $6 half dozen. Please place your order on the list at the door, and if you would like to be part of the team making them, we would appreciate that very much.
The rolls can be collected from the Bryndwr building between 11am and 12 on the 25th, or else from StAC on Sunday 26th after the service. Orders for St Lukes people will be available for them at their 10am service on same day.
Order forms will also be at both Papanui & Bryndwr church offices. Once again, we offer a $10 voucher to whoever places the largest order. Stock up for winter lunches or snacks! Any queries to Kath Newton or Ann Hudson.
