Papanui Lilliput Library opening:  You are invited to the opening of the Papanui Lilliput Library on Sunday 19th May at 3pm at The Village Papanui. Come along and help us celebrate the installation of this miniature library for our Papanui neighbourhood. Afternoon tea to follow.

Cheese Rolls:  We are taking orders for cheese rolls which will be made on Saturday 25th May, $12 dozen or $6 half dozen. Please place your order on the list at the door, and if you would like to be part of the team making them, we would appreciate that very much.  The rolls can be collected from the Bryndwr building between 11am and 12 on the 25th, or else from StAC on Sunday 26th after the service.  Order forms will also be at both Papanui & Bryndwr church offices. Once again, we offer a $10 voucher to whoever places the largest order.   Stock up for winter lunches or snacks!  Any queries to Kath Newton or Ann Hudson.

Receipts:  End of year Tax Receipts are now available.  Please collect after Church today.

Advance notice, “Keep the date/s”:

We would like to get Parish Visitors together and offer two dates, hoping that one of these will suit you.  Either Thursday May 30th or Wednesday June 5th.  Venue to be advised.  We haven’t met together for some time and think the opportunity to hear from you and to discuss this important aspect of our church life is valuable.  Please note the date that suits you best.

Parish Fund-Raising Lunch – Sunday June 9th after church.  Venue, Papanui building.  Cost $20 (tickets available soon).  Our High Tea last year was a happy occasion and we are hoping that this lunch will provide the same opportunity for fun and friendship.  Please “keep the date free”.

Reading Relievers needed:  Would you be able to help occasionally on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday (between 9.15 and 10.15am) when one of our regular Burnside Primary school reading people is unavailable?  If so, please ring Linda Cowan email lindacowan@xtra.co.nz  We would really appreciate some help.

Old beads/necklaces for Canbead:  Do you have any old beads or necklaces you no longer need?  I am collecting these for CanBead, a branch of CanInspire, a charitable trust.  You can get these to me anytime, or I could collect them if you prefer.  Janice Cundall.

Jam jars for Burnside Primary Christmas gifts: Linda Cowan is looking for small screw-topped jars for a gift project for Burnside Primary staff.  If you have any spare jars, please bring them on a Sunday and place them in with the food offering.  Alternatively, jars can be left at either the Bryndwr or Papanui offices. Many Thanks!

Male-only God? Exploratory session on the feminine aspects of the Divine:  Sunday 26th May, 4pm-5pm. Koha.  Women and men are welcome to join this 1-hour exploratory session that invites us to expand our concept of and language about God.  Session hosted by Megan Blakie, Bridie Boyd and Kathryn Fee. We welcome anyone from the Christian tradition, whether churched, on the fringes, or post-church.   There will be time for prayer and reflection, as well as discussion. Book Launch for Joy Kingsbury-Aitken:  Joy’s book “Prayers for Southern Seasons: Poems and prayers for Christian worship and devotions” is being published by Philip Garside Publishing Ltd.  It is a collection of prayers and poems crafted over the years as she has led services in many different congregations.  Of particular interest is that this book has taken into account the ‘down under’ experience we have living in New Zealand. https://pgpl.co.nz/print-books/prayers-for-southern-seasons-print/

Table Talk are hosting the book launch at The Village Papanui on Sunday 19th May at 6pm.  A potluck finger food meal to start, followed by Joy introducing the book and reading some extracts.  Please come along (with a plate!) to celebrate this occasion with Joy.

Copies of the book will be sold for $25, with $5 going to The Village (if purchased by a Village member).
