Recently the Parish Council adopted a new ‘Mission Plan’ for The Village. This has been a document in the making for the last two years and seeks to bring a cohesive sense of vision and direction as we get about our living and serving together as The Village. This document will be presented during both the 10am service and at The Gathering today (4pm). Any questions you may have can be directed to Dan, or David (Brown).
IRD Scam: If you received an email about a tax refund recently, you might have been caught up in a “very wide-spread scam”. The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) is warning of a “new and convincing email scam”. It noted that the emails did not have a personalised greeting, that the IRD would not include a monetary amount, and that the IRD numbers included were false.
Inland Revenue is currently working to have this scam taken down, but noted that other scams can arise at any time. Anyone who receives an email is encouraged to alert the IRD by phoning 0800 227 774. (Information from an article on Stuff.co.nz).
Want to Help? Would you consider volunteering for Citizens Advice Bureau?
Citizens Advice Bureau is currently recruiting volunteers for an Induction course starting in September 2019.
On any given day, a volunteer working their shift might be approached about a whole range of questions, from tenancy rights, requests for directions, or needing documents signed by a Justice of the Peace, to helping someone deal with redundancy.
“One of the things I have really enjoyed is you don’t have to know everything. It’s about listening to our clients stories, looking up information and finding options for them, so they are empowered to do something about their situation” Bruce.
To find out more, email: email@example.com or phone 0800 367 222 to talk to one of their caring and supportive volunteers.
(This month we farewell the Citizens Advice Bureau from our Papanui meeting room, as they move back to their offices at the Fendalton library).
Creative Nest: On July 30th we are planning to start on Christmas card making. Yes, Christmas is coming! We will start at 10:30am. Bring some old cards, small decorations and Christmas wrapping paper. Phone Tracey at the office if interested.
Concurrent with the workshops is the wide range of crafts available to try as well as games, writing, community projects and the very popular jigsaw challenge. Scrabble and other board games are also available and we would love to see some more Scrabble and Rummi-Kub enthusiasts along to join a new member who would love to have some company playing her favourite games.
For Friends of the Nest who are enjoying knitting peggy squares at home, don’t be too concerned about size.
Any ‘squares’ that don’t fit a blanket, Heather converts into quirky kittens for the Village market.
