Very Rev Andrew Norton
This week the church lost a great friend and mentor in Andrew Norton, who died on Monday 9th September.
As PCANZ Moderator Andrew spent a lot of time being alongside and inspiring our Presbytery but also our Village Parish Council. These occasions were always deeply profound as he encouraged us to connect more deeply with our imaginations and our creativity and to find our way to expressing this, as we are each gifted to do. You will remember too that just a couple of years ago he brought his photography and poems to The Village in a very successful exhibition.
This prayer was included in the email sent from St Columba church where Andrew last ministered:-
We have such huge love and respect for Andrew
We have anguished over this pain and suffering
Yet, time and again ‘Andrew’ rose up to amaze and delight us afresh
We salute his courage, his wisdom, his deep faith and his generous love
We will never forget this man for he lives in our hearts
We release Him into Your loving care.
Be warned, he will have bold ideas about how heaven could be better!
I guess you already know that
Meet the Candidates – Sunday 15th September 2019 at 7.00pm at the Village Bryndwr – an invitation has been extended to the 13 candidates who are standing for election in the Fendalton / Waimairi and Harewood wards as City Councillor or Community Board member, to come and speak to the community. They have been invited to give a five-minute address on “What I have to offer as a City Councillor/Board member” and to outline the values which have motivated them to stand for elected office. There will be a time for questions from the floor. David Coster will be moderating the meeting, and there will be supper afterwards.
And for those in the Papanui Ward: The Redwood Business and Residents Group are hosting a ‘Meet the Candidates’ event on Tuesday 17th September at 7pm – Christchurch Function Centre, Redwood Hotel, 340 Main North Road.
Women’s Fellowship: Our next meeting will be hosted by Pat Angus on Saturday, 28th September at 2pm at Pat’s home. Pat has a very interesting bell collection which she will tell us about. Any enquiries or if transport is required, please phone Catherine.
Operation Christmas Child: Thank you to those who took Christmas boxes last week, and especially to the person who had it filled and returned to the Bryndwr Office by Tuesday. That must be a record!
There are still some boxes available after the service this morning, or at either office during the week. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Thank you, Kathleen Anderson.
The Bryndwr Community Garden is running a Spring Picnic at Morley Street Park on Saturday 21st September at 12 noon. BBQ, Animal Rides/Pats, Bouncy Castle, Games and Face Painting. If raining, postponed to 28th September. Contact Kate Boardman for further information.
From the Hospitality team: An evening is being arranged on Saturday 5 October at the Village Bryndwr. This will be a pot luck dinner and a chance to hear Martin and Anne talk about their trip and see some images from their time away. More details will follow.
