Petition information (as mentioned by Nancy at church on Sunday 9 August). Georgie, Eleanor M.’s daughter and Nancy’s granddaughter has Cystic Fibrosis and according to Sir Bob Elliot (Doctor, researcher, discoverer and advocate), Trikafta is the miracle drug for CF they have been hoping for. Currently, the price is simply unreachable for families to obtain at $467,000 a year. Due to public pressure, Pharmac is now willing to negotiate on funding for this drug. Can we please urge those within our church community who wish to, to sign this petition. The link is below. The petition closes 22 August.
For more information please feel free to speak with Nancy or Eleanor (Deirdre or Tracey in the offices can put you in touch with them). https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/petitions/document/PET_91080/petition-of-malcolm-mulholland-for-patient-voice-aotearoa
Parish Council Report: The parish council held their August meeting on Tuesday 11 at Papanui. We’re still enjoying meeting in person and hope to continue to do so.
Firstly, we would like to reiterate vigilance with regard to contact tracing and the government guidelines. With a return to level 2 or above this may mean that activities in the Village will have to be suspended to ensure we can keep everyone safe and well.
The Village Market and Foot Clinic have been doing well. A huge thanks to all the volunteers who help to make these happen, we wouldn’t be able to provide these services to the community without them! Many of our partners are using our buildings again and are happy to be back.
This month we had a report back from Dan, Gene, Sharon and Lisa who went to Whanganui to explore some ideas around children’s ministry. We saw three churches and different approaches to including children within the church. There is a lot to think about, and we hope to see how we can use the learning further.
We have been exploring some ideas around transport to services and other activities in the Village, and would welcome some feedback about what is needed and how we can best provide that. If you have any thoughts, please have a chat to any one of the parish councillors, we would love to hear what you have to say.
The weekly calendar on the next page, is correct at the time of printing, but may of course change due to Levels. If you are not sure what is happening, please call or email to either of the offices on weekday mornings, or ask a minister or parish councillor.
