Our Papanui office is no longer open on Wednesday – the office opening hours remain the same for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday – 9.30am to 12pm.
Newcomers event – on Friday August 20, from 6pm, we will be holding a pot-luck shared meal at our Papanui site, for anyone who has made their way into The Village since September 2018, when we last had one of these events. We will endeavour to make contact with the people in this category but if by some awful chance we miss anyone, please do make yourself known and feel welcome to join in. It’s a great way to meet a few more people in a relaxed and fun environment. Please contact Anne Stewart if you need any further information.
Games evening – The Village invites you and your family/friends to an ‘Olympic themed’ games evening on Friday August 27 at the Bryndwr site. We can even have spectators and no social distancing (hope that’s not speaking too soon!). So keep this date free and more detail will emerge over the next few weeks.
Upcoming fundraiser for Tata School Rebuild: An advance notice as we work toward achieving our fundraising goal there will be another opportunity for you to help – we will be selling Ecostore soap bars, a quality product which will be sold at a good price. Details soon!
First Thursday social hour: Our ‘First Thursday’ for August (5th) will be a mid-winter pot-luck Christmas celebration meal. We’ll gather in the old hall at Bryndwr at 5pm. If you are planning to attend, please let Mitch and Barbara know what you will bring. Everyone is welcome!
Help with internet banking: An initiative to help folk with using internet banking is offered in Christchurch from July 26– to August 20. You are invited to register for a ‘Digital Banking class’ by contacting Christchurch City Libraries ph 941 7923.

Community energy action – cost-effective heating solutions and expert service, with a charitable purpose: Insulation is the first step to a warmer, healthier and more comfortable home. All homes built (or insulated) before 2008 are recommended to be checked for insulation and topped up. Even with insulation, nearly all New Zealand homes will need heating to achieve recommended warmth levels. At CEA we can help you with this – we are the service provider for the government’s Kiwi Warmer Homes subsidy programme. For low-income owner occupiers we can provide subsidised (or free if qualified) insulation. Contact us to find out if you qualify for assistance. Also available are subsidies for heat pump installation (or woodburner or pellet fires), and insulation for private rental properties. Our energy advisors provide free, independent, no obligation advice over the phone or by email, specific to your situation. As a charitable trust, we can guarantee our advice will always be fair, objective and independent.
