Last Monday we celebrated twenty years at Music Moments in Papanui. We were pleased to share the party with, and acknowledge the work of, Margaret S., whose initiative and hard work started and developed the group in the early years, and Pat D., who has done all the behind the scenes clerical work and been there on Monday mornings for all of those 20 years. We were also pleased to welcome and acknowledge Ali and Dan, who led the music in the past, and Ellen M., who made the morning tea muffins for many years. Dan shared a couple of his favourite songs, and Margaret and Pat blew out the candles on the cake before we all had morning tea together. The children took home party gifts of bubbles and sea animal models.

Public talk: Our water, our future: Holding ECan accountable for nitrate pollution. Join The Environmental Law Initiative (ELI) and Dr Mike Joy to hear about our fight for the future of freshwater in Canterbury.
Where: Village Church in Bryndwr, Christchurch and online
When: Sunday 18 May, 7pm -8.30pm
Join the event in-person or online.
Canterbury holds the majority of freshwater in Aotearoa, but this public resource is significantly degraded because of intensive agriculture. Excess nitrogen wasted from farming systems accumulates in freshwater and groundwater, polluting drinking water supplies and harming aquatic life.
The Environmental Law Initiative is preparing for two significant High Court hearings in May, challenging Environment Canterbury (ECan) over decisions that permit nitrate pollution in the region’s freshwater systems. Meanwhile, the Government is intent on weakening the bottom lines for water quality and has plans to replace the Resource Management Act.
This is a rallying moment; decisions made now should protect and restore the health of our waterways for generations to come.
Come and join a public talk emceed by the legendary freshwater ecologist Dr Mike Joy. You’ll hear from the ELI team at the heart of the legal action against ECan, Anna Sintenie, and Lottie Boardman.
