Youth Group End of Year Celebration and Graduation: Kia Ora all!
Join us for youth group’s end of year celebration and graduation! We will be celebrating the awesome year that we’ve had and acknowledging a bunch of our wonderful young people who are graduating high school. We would love for you to come and connect with the young people and share fun memories and good food! More details below.
Please RSVP to gene@villagechurch.nz by 11th Dec and inform of any dietary needs. For those who have been involved with leading the young people in various groups over the years, if you have any photos to share, please email these through to me. Thank you.
When: Thursday 12th December Time: 6pm – 7.30pm Where: Bryndwr – the Common and outdoor lawn area
What to bring: as this is a potluck event, please bring a plate to share! We do have a few dietary needs including gluten free (celiac), vegetarian, and vegan. We will arrange options to cater for each need within youth group, so no pressure to provide for the different needs however we’ll gladly welcome more options for those willing to attempt gluten free and vegetarian cooking! We look forward to seeing you there!
Thursday Hour December 5: 5-6pm at the Village, Bryndwr – join us for a social hour, nibbles provided (byo drink).
Children’s Christmas Celebration and Communion – 10am service Sunday, 15 December: Come along and celebrate Christmas with the young people of the Village. Everyone is welcome at this special service – bring your children, your grandchildren and your neighbours! Morning tea will follow the service. Please bring a plate of child-friendly food to share, it would be much appreciated.
Presbyterian Support Request for Gifts: I would like to thank all who so generously responded to the request from Presbyterian Support to provide Christmas gifts for two struggling families with children who have mental health issues. In this we are partnering with the students of St Andrews College and Rangi Ruru to provide gifts for eighty families in need. Presbyterian Support reached out to us for gifts for the remaining two families because of our reputation for supporting the community. Please drop your gifts off at the Bryndwr office by 5 December. Gifts are not to be wrapped.
Luke Blackbeard’s Licensing: As you know, we decided to call Luke Blackbeard to be our new minister subject to the Alpine Presbytery licensing him. Luke accepted our call with enthusiasm and excitement. His licensing service will be held at St Stephens in Timaru on Sunday 8 December beginning at 1.30. The address is 349 Wai-iti Road, Timaru. Some of you might like to make the journey south in support of Luke on this important occasion for him and us.
Friendly Circle Lunch – Tuesday 17 December, midday. If you would like to join the small group who gather once a month for lunch at Jennifer’s home, please call Jennifer or Pat. As this is a catered meal, numbers are needed in advance. We look forward to seeing you.
Working Bee – The Village, Bryndwr
We will be holding a Working Bee on Saturday 7 December at 9am – 12noon to do general tidying up, weeding, pruning etc of the grounds. Any time you can spare will be appreciated. Please bring along your favourite tools.
Mower Request – one of our motor mowers has seized up so is no longer working! Therefore we would be happy to receive one if you have no need for yours. Pick up can be arranged. Thank you. Please contact John C.

2024 Arts Exhibition: Many thanks to all who were involved in the celebration of creativity this year. The donations received, which have been given to the Papanui Bush project, totalled just over $500. The project will let us know what the money is used for, some of the options being considered are to help fund a mural, or for a seat placed somewhere on the walkway, to sit and enjoy the bird life and peaceful environment.
Sunday 10am Roster: An email has been sent to ask those who are on the duty roster list, to find out what dates you may be unavailable for (Jan-Mar 2025). We would appreciate a reply, even if you aren’t going to be away, by Thursday 12 December. Thank you.
Looking for: More people to volunteer as welcomers, on the set-up team, and to assist with morning tea on Sunday morning. Please email Andrew S. or Tracey at the Papanui office, if you are happy to be included on the roster for one of these duties. Thank you.
