At ‘The Village’ – 15 to 22 February 2024

Our 10am Sunday Service next week (25 February) will be held at The Village Papanui.  The Sanitarium Weetbix Kids TRYathlon will take place again this year at Jellie Park on Sunday 25 February.  The streets in the vicinity, including those around our church building in Bryndwr, will be closed. As parking near our Bryndwr building will be impossible, we will be holding our regular 10.00 a.m. Sunday service on 25 February at our Papanui facility on Frank Street.

Establishing a Lay Worship Team:

During this season of transition, we have a wonderful opportunity to develop new skills as we try out new ways of doing things.   Even when we were being led by a full-time minister, there were times when we had to call on members of the congregation to organise and lead Sunday worship.  These occasions may increase in the near future.  Parish Council has therefore approved the establishment of a Lay Worship Team.  When required, the team will get together to plan out the service and during Sunday worship each person in the team will contribute by delivering one aspect of the service (e.g. a prayer, the children’s story, notices, the reflection).

Training in all aspects of a worship service will be provided for all who express interest in becoming a member of The Village Lay Worship Team.  If you would like to join this team, or just want to know more about it before making a commitment, please contact Joy

Bryndwr Banter:  The latest newsletter is nearly ready to be delivered.  Please contact Tracey, Fei or Mary Jo to help in distributing this fantastic resource, which also lets our neighbours know what’s happening at the Village!  Thanks so much for your help!

Easter CampGene is preparing to take the youth group to Eastercamp.  It is a big exciting event on their calendar!

There are a few young people who need financial assistance to be able to attend.  If you would like to sponsor a young person, please contact Gene at gene@villagechurch.nz

Registration cost is $250 per camper – we don’t ask sponsors to pay for the full amount but ask for a contribution. Payments are due 22 March so donations made before that would be appreciated.

There are other costs to attend such as hiring a group marquee. The youth group is planning to fundraise for the event as well.

If you would like to donate directly to the bank account please include your surname and E.Camp in the reference boxes.  Thank you!

Indoor Bowls at Papanui:  Come and join us at the Village Papanui on a Friday afternoon 1.30pm to 3.00pm for a social game of indoor bowls.  No previous bowling experience needed. The first afternoon will be Friday 1st March 2024. Be there by 1.15pm and wear flat, soft-soled shoes. Contact Margaret S. for further details.

Clothing Shop: The clothing shop is looking for some more volunteers.  It’s for one Saturday morning a month from 9.15am to 12 noon on a roster system.  We really need another couple of helpers to spread the load on our present volunteers.  If you think this is you, please contact Janice C.

March / April Birthday Dinner:

We had a lovely celebration of the January and February birthdays recently, at Ken and Kath N’s home.  This notice is to ask if there is anyone prepared to host the March/April celebration.  The meal is potluck, although we often ask what delicious dish you would like to bring to share, so that there is a variety.

If you would like to host, Kath and Lesley are happy to assist with ideas about organisation which we have found useful.  Please have a chat to Kath or Lesley if hosting is something you would be happy to do.  Many thanks.

Tuia Burnside Primary | Caretaker: We are looking for a new caretaker – 15hrs per week from 8am-11am. Please come and see Justin or Nic at the school if you’d like more information about the role.
