The Village Presbyterian Church Parish Council August Update
The August meeting of the Parish Council was held on Tuesday 13th August in The Nest
at Papanui. The meeting opened with devotions contributed by Keren who read
from Joy about her experience in Petra – seeing feet being washed and hospitality shown by a Bedouin family.

Vision, Purpose, Mission, Strategy and Action Statement: It was agreed that this document should be approved.
Correspondence received regarding the sale of Valerie Place was tabled and discussed.

The Covid Situation: Numbers attending services are lower. It was agreed that the
use of masks and distancing practices will continue. Morning tea following Sunday services will recommence on August 21st.
Participation will be at the discretion of the individual. Communion will recommence on August 21st using only two teams of servers.
The congregation will be served at their seats and communion glasses will be collected.
Parishioners will be reminded that if they feel unwell, they should stay at home.

Finance: Judith Souness spent time explaining the Draft Annual Accounts
drawing the Council’s attention to key items:
• Volunteer hours per week are down as there are fewer activities taking place at present.
• Income is down and expenses have increased.
•The Draft Annual Accounts be adopted.
Judith reported on the sale of the Valerie Place property. Judith and David have met
and corresponded with the agent regularly.
There have been about 20 visits to the property. Some areas of the house were
“staged” to enhance the presentation. Rubbish has been tidied away, lawns have
been mowed, pea straw put on gardens and plants trimmed.

Reports were received from the Ministry Team, the Community Centre, Property and
the Children’s Working Group.
The following points were highlighted:
• Property: It is felt that we need to be better at looking after our buildings. A
suggestion was made regarding the use of a maintenance contractor. Cost would
be the issue. There needs to be a better system for inspecting our buildings each
year. Ideally there needs to be a coordinator to oversee all buildings. At
present we have Gordon S. overseeing Papanui, Gordon D.-
Bryndwr, Andrew S.: the manses and Alistair P.: Redwood.
• One Conference: 17th to 19th of November in Wellington will be an opportunity to reconnect.

It was agreed that the Village Church would help up to 4 attendees participate in this event.

Village Market request: the reserve of items for sale at our monthly markets
has dwindled – we need your help! If you have household items, furniture,
books etc in good condition suitable for sale at the market, and would be willing to
donate them, we would love to receive them. Pick-up can be arranged if needed,
or you can drop things off to either office during open hours.
It would be great too to have some new faces – so come along yourself, encourage
your neighbours, family and friends.
